To this end, the experience was carried out in the discipline of Business Controllership of the undergraduate course in Accounting Sciences at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). Data collection was applied in two classes of the discipline of Business Controllership, one in the morning and the other at night, totaling 59 participants, through a questionnaire applied to the students to obtain feedback on the application performed, the participant observation by the tutors, and the analysis documentary of the evaluation criteria, both in the reports, as well as in the documents prepared for self- evaluation and peer evaluation, which were also part of the composition of the final evaluation. Being adopted a qualitative approach for data analysis, using the methodological strategy called action research. The results show that the operationalization of the PBL had a positive impact on the students’ performance, and consequently, it was effective, since it reached one of the objectives of the PBL, which is to contribute to the teaching-learning process. However, it is verified, both in the participant observation and in the students’ report, the suggestion for the application of the PBL in conjunction with expository classes, as well as a feedback before the final evaluation, and also, that the PBL is applied in other subjects of the course.
