Show Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyze the role of the meaning of work and its changes in the trajectory of Don, a 35-year-old drug addict. We adopted the method of life history, to analyze the overlap between the meanings attributed by Don to the works he developed throughout his career and his involvement with psychoactive substances, from the beginning of use to recovery. Through this method we observed that the meanings attributed to work by the subject are altered according to each stage of his life, from the moment when only the drug makes sense, until its treatment, when life needs new meanings. This research brings an innovative contribution within the fields of treatment of chemical dependency and the world of work, as we integrate the theory of the meaning of work with the trans-theoretical model of change in an empirical study.
