Quality in Phenomenography Applied to Organizations Other Languages

In recent years, phenomenography has been gaining relevance in organizational studies with a qualitative and interpretive nature. It is considered a new perspective because it allows work phenomenon to be described and theorized based on the set of ways in which it is conceived by practitioners. Being relatively recent, its practice occurs in different ways, and with criticism to its quality. The present article aims to contribute to the discussion about the principles of quality in phenomenographical studies. For that, a systematic review of the literature on phenomenography was made in the databases SCOPUS (244 articles) and Google Scholar (1210 articles). It was identified that the main topics discussed in the theoretical debate on phenomenography are the expansion to other areas, the epistemological and ontological aspects, the researcher’s position, the practices of analysis and the generation of theory. Afterwards, the following aspects of quality that are specific to phenomenography were systematized: definition of the phenomena and the interviewees, interviews script, reading of transcriptions, search for meanings, definition of the outcome space categories, practical contribution and generation of theory. Finally, it was pointed out its main implications for the organizational studies, with emphasis on the researcher’s previous knowledge of the context and the consistent definition of the phenomenon.
