The debate about corporate governance has gained increasing importance in academic and business communities since the late 80s. This was caused by several factors among which the crisis in Asia, the financial scandals that plagued large listed companies and some U.S. audit firms and, more recently, the global financial crisis. Although the need to improve the existing instruments and / or discover new mechanisms in order to find a system of corporate governance that minimizes agency costs have long been advocated, the global financial crisis originated in the U.S gave it new impetus. And now, with special emphasis on banking. Failures in corporate governance, in particular in the banking sector have been identified as responsible for the global financial crisis that started in 2007and is only comparable to the Great Depression. Thus, this article aims, first, to make a general characterization of the mechanisms of corporate governance, integrating in the study the so-called agency costs, and then, to analyze those mechanisms in the banking sector, establishing a relationship between them and the financial crisis. The research carried out allows to demonstrate the importance of instruments of corporate governance in reducing agency costs, particularly in the context of the financial crisis. Although the banking sector has its specificities, the research done indicates that there is a relationship between those instruments and the performance of banks and that the weaknesses in corporate governance largely determined the financial crisis.

This article sought to monitor and analyze the Production Planning and Control (PPC) in the areas of machining, cutting and conformation in Metal Mechanic Industry. We followed the master plan weekly as well as the monthly production and suggested a plan of action for improvement opportunities raised during the research. The study consists of a survey whose approach is descriptive. This is a survey based on the qualitative approach. Regarding procedures, it is of a diagnostic nature as it not only describes problems but also presents as a result, solutions for the organization. It was found that there is no information system to manage data related to production, which makes it difficult obtain conclusion data on each product mainly in what concerns the relation between time planned and time effectively spent on production. Therefore, we conclude that the coordination of internal activities, aligning them with the activities of suppliers and establishing communication with clients regarding future demand, are actions that will translate into competitive advantage for the company in the global market.

Brazilian higher education has undergone deep changes over the last decade. Government policies for the qualification of Professors and the increase in opportunities for student financing their Higher Education have changed the landscape of many faculty courses. The profile of this new clientele, their expectations and aspirations has been the object of attention of education managers. In this context, this paper aims to analyse the increase of women participation in the university and how it reflects on the management of higher education institutions. The research was exploratory in nature and employed as a technical case study. The sample consisted of undergraduate women students of the Business Administration Course in one of the 59 Brazilian Federal Universities. The survey instrument was a questionnaire and the data processing was done under the qualitative and quantitative approach.The result of the research shows the perception of female students on the course in a gender oriented perspective and the implications of being a woman in a course traditionally man oriented.

Globalization has led to changes in habits of consumption, production of goods, services and knowledge. The accounting tool for business decision making and government is inherent in this context, mainly due to its social role. In this scenario, the federal government instituted by Decree No. 6022 of January 22, 2007, the Public System of Digital Bookkeeping (SPED) which, among its projects, proposes the NF-e - Electronic Invoice, the electronic emission of invoices using information technology to reduce paper costs and document storage and contributes to the reduction of ancillary obligations. This research aims to analyze the impacts on the Micro and Small Business Enterprises based in Umuarama/PR, regarding the deployment of the eletronic invoices as well as the perception of managers on the benefits and goals announced by the Federal Government. This research, as to its nature, is classified as applied research, descriptive, inductive, with exploratory and quantitative/ qualitative approach. The survey instrument and data collection adopted was a semi-structured questionnaire with open and closed questions, applied in September 2011 with a research sample which consisted of 30 companies in the chosen municipality. The results indicate that the impacts suffered with the implementation of the eletronic invoice ( NF-e) were : changes in internal processes, need to invest in technology and increase in total costs. The perception of business owners in relation to the objectives and benefits of the tool also differs in part from that of the Federal Government.

Trust, as an asset within organizations can be considered a challenge to administrators, especially in regard to managing this asset so that it is to be reflected in the quality of the work performed and the relationships between employees. For this study authors that help to discover ways to manage the trust were identified.Then, we developed a survey based on existing concepts that corroborated to identify the impacts that management confidence can have on civil construction. The questions presented identified that motivation, leadership and the existing form of communication in the organization make employees take risks and face challenges. Thus, it creates expectations that the organization uses common commitment to stimulate the interest of people who are part of the organization.

Studies indicate that the effort made to measure the level of innovation in an organization is not an easy job, as there is no consensus on the most appropriate model for application. In the specific case of measuring the degree of innovation in companies participating in the program Local Innovation Agents (ALI) from SEBRAE, a diagnostic model called Innovation Radar has been applied.This paper analyzed the degree of innovation in a Small Company (EPP) of the metal-mechanic sector, located in the Metropolitan Region of Recife-PE, through the application of the Innovation Radar. Thus, the Innovation Radar was applied at three different times in order to check the evolution in the degree of organizational innovation. For the theoretical foundation, a survey of the literature on innovation in business models and measurement of levels of innovation was conducted. The main results show that from the diagnostics applied, it was possible to suggest innovative actions to the small company (EPP) such as development of a logo , creation of a visual identity, identification of the main bottlenecks in the management of the company, creation of new channels of communication with the customer and development of strategies to optimize and standardize administrative processes.

Entrepreneurial success stems from the acceptance of calculated risks as part of the decision-making process, once management is about decision making and not a process that one can straightly define: while some companies achieve it, others do not reach it. Thus, this paper aims to evaluate in what level the choice of management indicators and their use in decision-making process were key factors for determining risk for companies, which wish to be successful in their performance. The methodological procedure structures around an exploratory study of quantitative and qualitative nature in a transverse section multicase study. Main considerations point to the fact that all the participating companies have the same management system, although they apply it in different levels. The management indicators most commonly used were those of financial nature, such as: (a) average payment period, (b) average collection period, (c) cash flow; (d) billing monitoring and (e) stock control. Finally, the study concluded that business environment needs to have reliable guides for their decision making processes - within the possibilities and limitations set out in them. Also, so far, not all companies have determined the strategic value of information .

Focusing in retail business in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, this research is about actions related to customer services and sales people training practices. Descriptive and qualitative techniques were employed. Data was collected through a questionnaire. It was possible to identify the types of training applied to customer services and sales teams, as well as to see the choices made for these practices. We identified that there is a concern on the companies part to offer training and development to their employees. The main focus of these trainings is on knowing the product, on sales techniques and on customer services. The research pointed to how the choices for such trainings are made and who the people responsible for their elaboration and management are.

In the presente economic cenario, businessmen search for agility, facility and precision in the processes of sales and inventory management. Eletronic commerce offers to businessmen a different possibility to offer their products and services and it also allows for transactions with industry and suppliers. The main objective of this research was to verify the consequences of e-commerce for businessmen in São Miguel do Oeste-SC and to see if companies in the municipality take specific actions to face the competition of e-commerce.The methodology applied was bibliographic, exploratory,descriptive and quantitative research. The companies where the research was carried out were micro and small businesses and in many of them women were in charge. Businessmen pointed out that e-commerce has made it easier to buy products in business to business (B2B) transactions. The advantage presented by interviewees regarding e-commerce were facility, commodity and low costs for the final consumer as well as for the transactions between companies. More than half of the interviewees stated that the internet has not affected the profit of their companies so far.
