In the recent Brazlian history, the experiments involving local development issues have gained visibility and have been playing a key role in the country´s new development cycle. However, many authors point out an obstacle to this development process, which is the lack of a structure to support the efficient allocation of private and public efforts. In this context, this study has proposed to develop a tool to analyze the national industries in a systemic form, equipping public managers and other institutional agents with a practical tool to promote local development. A new model of life-cycle, the sectorial one, guided by an index — named Sectorial Development Index — that identifies the stage of development of the industrial sectors. The index is constituted by four variables (participation in the exports of the country, number of companies with valid patents, market share and number of companies), which represent the analyzed sectorial structures: competitive, technological, productive and social. The proposed tool aims to become a subsidies source for the directive project and the formulation of development strategies and actions, concerning both public policies and also the initiatives which should be adopted by the private sector.

In the business environment it is common, both within companies and in the their relationship with governmental organizations, the evidence of acts of private enrichment by the infraction of public or private rules, as well as the fact of the company to be coerced by public agents seeking incomes improperly using their position on their own benefit . Such facts represent the private and public corruption in the business environment of the companies. However, although the presence of this factor in the daily businesses of the Brazilian companies, there are few studies upon this subject. Aiming at to fill this gap, and to raise the debate on the subject, the goal of this paper is to unveil the presence of different types of corruption in the business environment of the small companies. As result of this goal, a measure  to evaluate corruption is developed due to the fact that there aren´t any tools available to do so in this business environment. For the development of this metric the focus group techniques, the Delphi electronic method and prospective scenarios were used. A survey with 206 answers of small companies in São Paulo downtown to analyse its application and to prove the different types of corruption (black, grey and white) shown in the sample. The results ratify the effectiveness of the principles of the Income Hunters Theory and the Theory of the Bribe for the understanding of the corruption in the business environment of the small companies.

The present work is a multiple-case study that applies the best practices of corporate governance proposed by the Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance (IBGC) in order to analyze three football (soccer) clubs of São Paulo state (Santos F. C., Botafogo F. C., e Paulista F. C.). Through a descriptive, qualitative and exploratory research, this study sought to verify the presence of characteristics and actions that comply with the IBGC´s Best Practices of Corporate Governance Code, proposing actions and means to carry them out. It was verified that the use of these concepts may be an important differential to the associations in competing for capital and other resources, because they contribute to the professionalization of the club’s management and leads them to achieve a higher level of legitimacy before their stakeholders.

Evaluation of the relationship among web service quality, satisfaction, perceived value, loyalty and word-of-mouth by a theoretical model

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the relationship between the service quality of the site, satisfaction, perceived value, loyalty and word -of-mouth by means of a theoretical model. In order to verify the associations of the suggested model a conclusive-descriptive qualitative research was conducted, characterized as a single transversal cut compilation. The sample was composed of Internet users that have bought any product or service on-line in the six months preceding the date of the research. The results indicated that the dimension fulfillment quality significantly affected the loyalty, that the quality of design had an impact on the satisfaction, that the fulfillment quality and service quality afeccted the perceived value, that the value had a direct effect on the satisfaction and that the word-ofmouth can be explained by the satisfaction as by the loyalty.

Conception and implementation of a quality of life at work program in the public sector: the managers’ strategic role

The goal of this article is to discuss the dilemmas (challenges, doubts and expectations) manifested by managers who participated in the processes of conception and implementation of a Quality of Work Life Program (QWLP) in a Brazilian public organ. This is a study of a qualitative nature, methodologically subscribed to the approach of Ergonomics of Life Quality-Geared Activity. Thirty six managers from the organ participated in the research, 17 of them being from the middle area and 19 from the end area. We used a questionnaire with three open questions as a data-collecting tool, applied at the end of two workshops with the organ’s managers. The data was treated through thematic category content analysis. The obtained results show the main challenges, doubts and expectations. The study furnishes empirical bases to reflect upon, especially within governamental organizations, the strategic role of the managers in the Life Quality at Work field.

Citations and non-citations in Brazilian´s strategy academic production: a critical reflection

The academic production in Brazil has increased significantly in the last years, not only because of the growth of the researchers’ population but also because of the demand of the financing agencies, and the institutions where the researchers work or study. The results of this increasing numbers of articles presented at various congresses and published in specialized journals has been systematically evaluated by the same publications aiming a better understanding and evaluation of this effort. In order to contribute to this understanding this work intended to investigate the similarity of contents index in the articles approved and published in the 3Es — Encontro de Estudos em Estratégia, as a way to evaluate the quality and originality of the academic production in Brazil, specifically in the discipline of Strategy. By means of technological content indexing mechanisms, all the articles published at the 2005´s 3Es meeting, were compared to the articles published at the 2003´s 3Es meeting and to the articles published in EnAnpad between 1997 and 2005. As a result, it’s presented a reflection about the purposes and criteria used to evaluate and to approve the publishing on those meetings.
