Even though the risk perception theory has been coined by Cognitive Psychology and widely used during more than 40 years, only after September 11th 2001 the term risk was borrowed to tourism fields. The psychological and symbolic impacts that generated the WTC attacks drew the attention of many scholars concerned by the destination image. However, based on assumptions that need to be revisited, this body of knowledge rests on shaky foundations simply because its working definition of risk seems not to be correct. In addition, risk perception theory nourishes a discourse enrooted in a radicalized construction of otherness whose characteristics scare us. To some extent, risk perception theory in tourism has much to say but in fact some previous points should be previously discussed.

This article was developed having as major field of study the contribution of New Cultural Geography to the touristy activity, getting as example the development of the touristy sector at the Campo Grande city (Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil) and the analysis of how this sector has been trying to utilize the local culture as urban brand.  It was used as metodology a bibliographic survey about a field of the "New Cultural Geography" and the touristy activity, and later the analysis of the touristy activity situation at this city. It is appointed like results that this geographic field that started in the world around 1960 and in Brasil in 1970, has been contributed, to some extent, to sundries fields of study, like it is the specific case of the tourysm, specially by this field to insert in its studies the man, considering him as overriding and component part of the space development process.

This article is a reflection about the outcomes of implementation and development of the tourism project of the town named Cancun, in the state of Quintana Roo, México, from the urban hospitality point of view. The goal is to present an overview about the results of the implementation and development of the tourism in this town and the impact on the daily life and way of living of the local population, and also, in the residents relationship with the town. The research, which is a qualitative analysis, was based on direct observations, in consequence of the work experience of the researcher in the local hospitality industry and also as a local resident in Cancun for five years; based on bibliography research and academic papers as well as government sources, especially the Plan Maestro 2020 that was essential to the analysis of the testimonies heard during field research. The results of the research allows to evaluate the relationship between fast and uncontrolled development of the destination and its consequences.

This research aims to understand the changes in urban land use due to leisure and tourism at Fortaleza (Ceará State, Brazil), specifically at the west coast and the management policies for production of spaces agency. The conflicts of interests and contradictions concerning the public and private spheres related to the territorial politics are also investigated. West coast space appropriation manners, as capital space reserve, were analyzed in contrast to the east border, which is described as an area for global tourism that, striving for a typical capitalist upgrade, presents great changes on the urban landscape. The progress of real estate speculation on the city's reserve areas through socio-spatial enclaves is also critically examined. So, the socioeconomic realities of the Marina Park Resort Hotel, which is considered in this research as a sort of enclave of wealth inside an area of poverty, and Arraial Moura Brazil, the historically marginalized area known as a prostitution district, will be compared. Public policy in these matters will also be assessed.

Hotels have standards regarding front line staff stereotype. There seems to be no easy acceptation of otherness when the issue is manpower. To better understand this problem a research was conducted grounded on hotels and tourism theories as well as anthropological issues such as stereotype and cultural change. A questionnaire was applied to a probability sample of hotels to assess the acceptation of employees wearing piercing or tattoos. Another questionnaire was applied to a non-probability sample of national and international tourists to analyze their acceptation as well. This qualitative and quantitative research made possible to confirm discrimination in admission processes in hotel business.

Exploratory research on teaching-learning process aiming to identify the nature of higher education in the context of a monocultural classroom as part of a larger study conducted in Glion Institute of Higher Education (Switzerland) involving multicultural environments. Based on theoretical underpinnings of sense making, classroom observations and focus groups with hospitality students of Anhembi Morumbi University, this article describes and analyses the results of five interpretative categories: professional vocation, market experience, teaching strategies, learning process and bonding. It emphasizes that students question the teacher´s pedagogical action in an active and critical way. It is concluded that more maturity towards the teacher´s role and the expectations generated by this process is on evidence.
