Third Sector Organizations have emerged with the purpose of finding solution to different kinds of social problems. These organizations are challenged to keep their activities and achieve organizational sustainability basically gathering founds from third parties, which are derived from donations, partnerships, agreements, among others. In this sense, this study aimed to identify the level of Organizational Social Capital (OSC) of social organizations that participated of an interorganizational project developed in the Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. In this regard, it was conducted a quantitative survey using cluster analysis and non-parametric tests such as Kruskal-Wallis and Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney. The main contributions of this study are the classification of 3 groups with different levels of CSO, and the reflection on the motivations and reasons for the existence of these three different groups regarding level of CSO. This study showed the respondent bias as a limitation. Finally, it is suggested directions for future studies, which consider the examination of the variables shared vision 2 and trust 2, and the relationship between the levels of CSO and how the resources are mobilized by organizations.

This research aims to analyze the organizational practices related to innovation present in the Brazilian electric sector companies. This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The research comprised managers and / or responsible for the activity of R&D. The results show that the index processes all statements had means significantly positive while the index results was presented the lowest value compared to the others, which indicates that companies in the industry still has a lot to invest in the development of competence in the management of the results of their R&D programs and the generation of innovations from them. It was possible to conclude that in the twelve years after the regulation of the activity of R&D in the electricity sector effort was concentrated on practical knowledge, learning and innovation strategies.

The marketing literature on low income consumers differs about the benefits the relationship between this segment with companies and governments can bring. Some authors believe that companies can improve the quality of life of this public and governments can protect it from market failures, by offering quality public services. Other authors, for their part, discuss the advantages received by companies at the expense of these consumers and say that governments do not protect them from companies. These perspectives, however, are not analyzed from the optic of low income consumers and do not represent the way that companies and government actions are received by them, creating doubt if this group obtains or not benefits from companies and governments. The present paper, therefore, brings forth the opinion of low income consumers, with the objective of understanding their view of the relationship between companies and governments. For this, 27 interviews with consumers from this segment were conducted. From the data, it is possible to understand that the interviewees see the relationship with companies and governments marked by a hierarchy of power, in which they are in an inferior position, without strength to change this. Low income consumers believe they do not obtain the promised quality of life improvements in their relationship with companies and governments and indicate a distancing between the involved parties in their accounts: them there and us here.

This study presents an evaluation of expectations and perceptions of individual bank clients with high income in the municipality of São Paulo. A quantitative survey with 190 interviewees was carried through drawing on attributes of bank services as well as models and scales provided by the relevant literature. The scales of quality and satisfaction were analyzed in terms of reliability and validity. The scale recommended by the SERVPERF model proved to be the most appropriate to the results collected from high-income banking clients. Additionally, it was found that, in general, clients’ expectations are high and there are some attributes with great gaps, considering its perceptions and expectations. These results can provide relevant directions to the banks that intend to improve the quality of their services.

Planning and public spending control are one of the most important parts of the new regime in public administration. In this context, the objective of this work is to analyze the limits established by the Fiscal Responsibility Law (LRF) and Federal Constitution at COREDE Alto Jacuí from 2005 to 2008. The analyses have indicated that the LRF is not being applied in all the cities in this study due to the fact that the ordinary and integral legal limits established have not been applied. Furthermore, it could be observed that the value spent with salaries has grown continually during the period analyzed, mainly in cities with less population and economically smaller. Although the limits invested in education and health are according to the percentage in law, the majority of the cities in this study have shown contrasting results, and many cities with similar structure have had different results considering the areas studied, leading to the conclusion that heterogeneity in terms of size (populations and taxes collected) may be not a determinant observed factor in the legal limits.

Due to the importance of water for life and development, several international debates focused on the construction of strategies to mitigate the risk of water scarcity, resulting in a new management paradigm, called Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). Therefore, this study analyzes how Brazil is managing its water resources, in order to evaluate its proximity to the IWRM model, using a qualitative, exploratory research based on secondary, bibliographic and documentary sources. The results show that Brazil has advanced in terms of law, water management and use and has been progressively integrated into the IWRM model, but it still needs to enable actions that are supported in a more participatory and decentralized environment to extend homogeneously Water management mechanisms, in order to reach regions such as those in the Amazon basin.

Behavioral Finance is a modern branch of financial theory that aims to incorporate psychological and sociological issues in the investigation of market anomalies and individual investor behavior. This research sought to assess which demographic variables can be used to classify decision makers regarding to risk tolerance level. The questionnaire was applied with 305 individuals and its structure was based of the work of Gava and Vieira (2006), Grable and Lyntton (2001) and the Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF). Risk tolerance level was measured in two ways: an observable variable, from the SCF, and a latent variable composed of three constructs that refer to some risk dimensions: risk as investment, comfort and experience at risk and speculative risk (GRABLE; LYNTTON, 2001). In the analysis of data, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and variance analysis (ANOVA) were used. Results show that the greatest impact on risk tolerance among the analyzed dimensions was the dimension comfort and experience with risk; it presented the highest mean and the highest correlation with the risk tolerance score. Regarding to the demographic variables, the research shows that young, single and childless individuals tend to accept more risk in their investments. The income presented a nonlinear effect on the risk tolerance, but the more risk tolerant are those who are better able to withstand the possible losses arising from higher risk investments.

Multinationals firms have accelerated the internalization of their activities and reorganized R&D strategies management through global innovation network by allocation of global project responsibilities to their subsidiaries. This tendency has motivated this article which analyzes the restructuration process of the General Motors Corporation’s (GMC) product development strategies. In the case of General Motors Corporation, such reorganization resulted in the definition of a new concept of global architectures of vehicles, customized designs in relation to the market destination and the definition of five global centers responsible to the development and the management of these new architectures. The Brazilian subsidiary of General Motors (GMB) is one of these centers and became responsible for two mandates: to lead all global projects of medium pickups including the design activities, project and engineering; and collaborate in global project planned to emergent markets. Based on a case study in the Brazilian General Motors subsidiary during 2011 and 2012, this paper investigates the factors that motivate the choice of Brazil to be the global center, its attributions and results to the local firm. It remarks that GMB once integrated to the global engineering net catch opportunities to improve its local routines of product development. Nevertheless, it did not improve their research capabilities.

This article presents a teaching case focused on the discussion of organizational change, from the perspective of the interpretive paradigm and of the studies of organizational discourse. It describes a process of change within a non-profit organization, where people with and without learning disabilities, the latter called assistants, live in community. The introduction of new government guidelines changed the system of financing of such activity, giving more autonomy to people with learning difficulties and failing to provide activities that were central to the organization’s system of meanings. With the “heart” of the community threatened, assistants express the challenges to experience organizational change, reporting that they are dancing in blood. The case aims to contribute to the discussion of organizational change processes in postgraduate and possibly undergraduate courses, through an unusual perspective, which states the change not only as deliberate, but mainly as something built in participants’ interactions. It also can be used for supporting the discussion between agents and recipients of change in organizations.

This article aims to analyze the extent to which public procurement can be speeded up by introducing collaborative work techniques to consistently control information, eliminate unproductive tasks and unnecessary bureaucracy and, as a consequence, increase efficiency and The quality of the process. In order to prove the data, a case study was carried out in the purchasing section of a Federal Institution with the purpose of introducing the techniques of computer supported collaborative work (CSCW) through the workflow tool, In government purchases that practice the electronic bidding modality. The data collected and tested showed that the implementation of this tool will make the purchasing process of the Institution faster and more efficient, indicating that it is possible to break the paradigm of bureaucratic culture that permeates government procurement.
