The theme which is discussed in this study has revealed to be important in the current context of the world economy, where accelerated transformations in the competitive atmosphere have been forcing the companies to look for new methodologies, systems and management techniques. Thus, the administration for the total quality, as well as the ISO 9000 certification in this context, have been deserving prominence among the academic community, due to the development of a series of researches in that field, whose analyses have become important sources of information. The main goal of the present work is to analyze whether the ISO 9000
certification exercises influence on the competitiveness of the organizations. To do so, the following dimensions were explored in the research: quality of the products, productivity, customers' satisfaction, larger participation in the internal and external markets. The results reported in this study are the outcomes of a research which was planned by the method of case studies, which enabled us to analyze the importance of the total quality administration for the competitiveness. The data have revealed that the certification, in spite of not resulting in competitiveness gain within mid-long term, nevertheless, it has demonstrated to be very important for the organizations.
