Show Abstract
New forms of work organization management were created due to the change over the history of production modes. From the second half of the twentieth century, in response to the exhaustion of mass production, lean production at Toyota in Japan emerges. This management model has as its main features: the reduction of waste, the continuous improvement of quality, among other aspects that provided to meet the market demand. Some scholars defend lean production as the production and management model capable of providing a better working environment for workers and describe lean production as the production model that provides a better working environment for workers, with better conditions of organization, work in group, learning more functions and activities (versatility), among others. Other theorists, however, consider lean production as a new management model for intensifying work, which, while encouraging the growth of worker qualifications, increases the worker's pace, causing greater pressure. In order to illustrate this scenario and deepen the knowledge related to the subject and update the bibliographic review, this work from a master's thesis, aimed to conduct a research in order to know the perception of the worker in relation to lean production. For this, a bibliographic review on the subject was carried out in the first part, from its history, concept, organization and work management and studies already carried out and in the second part, an empirical research, of the case in a metal mechanic company in the interior of São Paulo, who adopted the lean production tools (kanban, kaizen, cell layout, 5 S, pulled production, multifunctionality / versatility, team work and autonomy) showing, before and after from the worker's perception, the aspects positives and negatives of work organization related to this production model. The case study was the research method used to collect information carried out through semi-structured interviewees with the company's workers. The survey results showed positive and negative effects on the perception of workers after the adoption of tools and management of lean production. The positive aspects raised were the improvement in the work with the possibility of learning new functions, the possibility of knowledge of new techniques and, the negative aspects pointed out were the increase in the load, pace and pressure of the work generated, the removal of some intervals day-to-day stress symptoms.
