Instituições públicas de ensino superior possuem grande potencial de influenciar mudanças. Compras sustentáveis são uma forma de institucionalizar a sustentabilidade, mas que ainda demandam aprendizagem. Neste contexto com abordagem qualitativa, de horizontal transversal, o objetivo deste estudo foi “explorar as demandas por aprendizagem geradas pela necessidade de promover compras sustentáveis no contexto organizacional de uma universidade pública brasileira”. A fundamentação teórica abrange aspectos relativos às compras públicas sustentáveis mudanças organizacionais em instituições de ensino superior e aprendizagem. Foram coletados dados primários e secundários. Realizou-se entrevistas semiestruturadas com oito informantes no contexto da UFSC entre dezembro de 2017 e maio de 2018. Identificou-se sete pontos críticos para aprendizagem organizacional que a impulsionam e devem ser considerados, quais sejam: i) Liderança; ii) Redes; iii) Cultura Organizacional; iv) Regulação, Controle e Monitoramento; v) Tecnologia; vi) Fatores Motivacionais e vii) Engajamento dos Indivíduos. Como recomendações para estudos futuros, propõe-se a análise dos processos de aprendizagem em instituições de ensino superior com ênfase em outro nível de análise ou entre níveis de aprendizagem. Uma combinação de técnicas de coleta em campo e maior longevidade do horizonte de pesquisa podem produzir resultados robustos para a formação de racionalidades e formas de ação para os gestores públicos.
